Harvey and I always managed to share a lot of laughs. His laugh is what I will remember clearest of all. The things he was passionate about, he pursued with endless vigour, whether it was his amazing TV career or his inexplicable love of the Dave Matthews Band. On a road trip we went on he brought 30 CD's, 28 of which were live DMB recordings! He was always very generous in his friendship towrds me, even in the early days of year 11 when newbies like myself were trying to find our place. My trip up to Carins for the test match was an amazing time and really opened my eyes to the great work that he did. At the end of each day though we'd still share a few beers and chat about many ridiculous yet hilarious things. It was hard to be away for his farewell, but memories of how he had grown and found happiness with Ange in the past were wonderful. My deepest condolences to The Harvey family. You will be missed mate.

Several people from overseas have asked for a transcript of what was said on behalf of Harvey's school friends, at his memorial ceremony on Friday 3rd September 2010. The transcript follows... ***** Since hearing of the terrible news last weekend, myself and other school friends of Harvey’s have shared a great deal of correspondence over email and on the phone. Obviously there have been so many messages expressing shock and sadness, but as well there’s been so many reflecting on good times, and of memories shared with Harvey. Much of what I’m going to say today centres around these things we shared in this last week. I guess looking back at all these good times and recounting these memories, I’ve come to realise that there’s something pretty special, and a bit unique about the relationships you build during these formative years at high school. People talked about all sorts of memorable experiences that they’d shared with Harvey… Times at school, at sporting events, at concerts, and on holidays… but also many smaller, less obvious, but still significant things had stuck in people’s minds. Like, someone said that even after all these years, they could still recognise Harvey’s hand writing immediately, and we also thought about many nick names of school friends, some of which had stuck years after school had ended, that Harvey had thought up. I was really overwhelmed too, by the messages that came unexpectedly from people in all corners of the world, and by the outpouring of memories and emotions, and I think Harvey would have been too… people who I expect he hadn’t seen for some years said that he was often in their thoughts, and would continue to be. I think this goes to show that no matter how much distance or circumstance separated any of us from Harvey, we all still feel so close to him. And I know he felt the same way too, because he said many times that one of the things he loved about his Ruse friends was that it didn’t matter how long ie went without seeing any of us, when he did see us he felt like no time had passed at all. I think the older we get, at some point we all wonder about what sort of mark or impact we’ll have on the world, and I like to think that if Harvey ever wondered this, that he would have no need for concern. I think this overwhelming outpouring, and sharing of stories and memories that have come out over the past couple of days is a real testament to the legacy of Adam Harvey. One of the things that almost everyone from school expressed, was their admiration from Harvey’s doggedness and determination in pursuing his career. I can still remember being on the school bus with him when we were 13 or 14, and talking about what we wanted to do when we grew up. And, I can remember Harvey very calmly and confidently saying “I’m going to be a sports journalist”. He knew exactly what he wanted, and that’s exactly what he did. Another common situation a lot of us recounted over the past few days, is now, 15 years on from high school, when people find out you went to a well renowned school, they often ask what sort of impressive careers your friends have. And it’s not the doctors, or academics, or lawyers that any of us talk about, but the guy who flew in the face of expectation, didn’t go to uni, and ended up with him name appearing in the most prominent position of the credits of several major national sports broadcasts. That determination and his success is something that we will all remember, and to me is a huge source of inspiration. On the subject of career, one of the really estimable aspects of Harvey’s life was how much he loved what he did. Since we both embarked on our careers, whenever I spoke to him, he’d always be talking about how busy he was, about working early mornings, late nights, and weekends, and about how long it had been since his last holiday. But I was always secretly a little bit dismissive of his complaints, because I know he absolutely loved what he did, and he wouldn’t have had it any other way. It’s really a rare blessing when someone finds themselves in a career where they genuinely love what they do, and I think that Harvey loved and lived a lot more time in his professional life than his years suggest. And, it wasn’t just from behind the cameras that Harvey’s love for sports showed. Many of the messages we shared this week marvelled at Harvey’s own prowess on the sporting field. Be it in running, footy, cricket, or basketball, Harvey will be remembered as a strong, competitive, and talented all-round sportsman. Despite his achievements, and his competitive nature on the sporting field, underneath his sometimes tough exterior, the Harvey I know was a caring guy, a loving guy, and someone who showed tremendous generosity towards his friends. Two of the stories that really stood out for me in this regard as we reminisced this week, were firstly from Chris, who talked about how when he was recovering in hospital from a difficult back surgery, got a call from Harvey. He was calling from the cricket commentary box, and Chris described how Harvey held the phone up, and let him listen to and off-air argument between 2 of them commentators, and told of how it made him laugh, and made him feel so much better. And the other story was from Matt, who met with Harvey in Cairns while he was on one of the cricket tours. Matt talked about how amazingly generous Harvey had been with his time… showing him behind the scenes, and watching in awe as Harvey instructed all of Matt’s cricketing heroes on where to go, and what to do for the show. Growing up with Harvey, and watching him as we both grew into adults, I guess I saw a lot of different sides and stages of his life, some which were great, but others where he was perhaps struggling for direction… I can remember a number of these times very well. But, the one encounter I had with him that left perhaps the strongest impression in my mind was around the middle of last year, when I met Ange for the first time. And, I have to say, this was the first time I’d seen him so undeniably positive, so comfortable, and so sure about where he wanted to be. Someone contrary to the occasionally tough exterior of the past, he told me without restraint about how good life was, how happy he was with Ange, and how he was looking forward to a future with her. The amazing thing about all messages and memories this week, was that several of our friends had had almost identical experiences with him around that time, and remembered how happy he seemed, and how he gushed about his relationship with Ange in a most ‘un-Harvey’ like way. Just as he’d found where he wanted to be in his professional life all those years earlier, he’d found where he wanted to be in his personal life, and had found a place for his heart. And, as tragic as it is that this is lost, I find great comfort in the knowledge that he found love, and found such a strong connection, because it’s something that many people go through a longer life without ever experiencing. Harvey… thanks for the memories, and for the good times. Thankyou for your motivation, your generosity, your passion, and your energy. We’re going to miss you, and we’ll never forget you.

I'm so sad to hear this news about Harvey - and although I hadn't been in touch too much over the past few years - he's someone I've always considered a good bloke ... someone who had a good sense of humour, knew what he wanted, and did his own thing! Many fond memories spring to mind about Harvey while we were at school - but the two I like the most are his timely performance of some choice Rage Against the Machine at a school assembly, and his romantic gesture involving tying me to a tree at a house party many years ago... I'm sorry I couldn't be there on Friday, but my thoughts and best wishes are with Adam's family and close friends.

I only just heard this sad news. I was very fond of Adam at school; he was a good pal in English class. I used to enjoy getting to my corner seat in English to be greeted by Harvey drawing up the grid for our endless games of Boxes to while away the time. Very sad.

Adam attended Macleay College Sydney and graduated with a Diploma in Journalism in 1996. I was a classmate. Early into our curriculum Adam zeroed-in on sports; we just had one of those strong gut feelings he'd smash it. We were right. Rabs' on-air tributes have echoed Adam's genius; his in-person anecdotes at Macquarie Shopping Centre only served to amplify my awe of what he was doing and who with. It's a dead set shock to learn about this. It was my Mum who messaged me tonight (I was away from the telly). Prayers and thoughts to all of Adam's loved ones and pals and close colleagues at TCN9. A legend has left us. -Greggo

Although I had mostly lost contact with Adam since high school, he was such a strong and unique character that he has, and always will, remain a large part of the memories I have of that time, and I have been greatly saddened with the news that he passed away last weekend. I wanted to contribute in a small way to this tribute page, and so here are a few of the things that spring to mind when I think of Adam: 1. I remember being amazed at one point in Year 7 that his name was actually Adam and not Harvey 2. He was very very funny....sometimes intimidatingly so.....I never got away with stupid comments around him, that is for sure! 3. But he had "another side" and he could be incredibly sweet and thoughtful, but he worked hard to hide this (at least during high school) 4. I remember people saying how important his family was to him, and that he loved hanging out with them at home 5. Who can forget him singing Rage Against the Machine and inapppropriately timing some "rock moves" as the principal walked in? 6. As well as football, he played many sports- I definitely remember being on the basketball court with him. I also remember colliding with him during a handball match at our PD/H/PE camp and hurting my ankle!! Just a small list of many happy memories, I wish I could be with the school crowd on Friday to be reminded of many more (the good and the bad!). My thoughts are with Adam's friends and family at this tragic time, Belinda (BJ/Beej)

I remember Adam from kindergarten at Cherrybrook - the boy with the biggest smile who was friendly and funny. Out paths crossed again at Ruse; his smile and friendly nature were just the same. During free periods in year 12, he would be reading the newspaper and making jokes while I was trying to get through my maths homework. He knew what was important in life. So sorry I'm unable to attend the celebration of Adam's life as I'm overseas. Will be thinking of Adam's family and friends.

I knew Adam at TCN 9 when I worked in tapes and in the library. I always enjoyed his extremely sharp and funny wit. I can still picture him leaning nonchalantly against the door frames cracking some insightful remark about anything and everything. I did not know Adam outside work other than the occasional work function but he was always a pleasant, generous, charming man and even though I no longer work with him I will always remember him. I am deeply upset and touched by his passing and I will always have him somewhere in my heart throughout my life. I will miss you Adam and it was an absolute pleasure to have known you.

So many memories come flooding back - I recall his football prowess during recesses and lunch, one particular game he managed to blind-side me off the ball and bounded away like nothing had happened. I also recall how fleet of foot he was - didn't look like it but damn he could run! Most recent memory was going to see the Rolling Stones concert with the Hoonster and my Mum! Finally the multitude of beers consumed at Tone and Jules's (and eventually Jules and Harv's) place in Gladesville. Harvey you'll be missed mate.

Although you might not have known from looking at him, Adam was a surprisingly fast runner at high school. I was always impressed by a photo in an August 1995 sports magazine showing the crowd running onto the SCG grounds to celebrate Tony Lockett’s 1000th goal, except Adam (wearing his trademark Carolina blue cap) was so fast that he had already congratulated Plugger and was on his way back out before most of the mob had even come close to getting there. I even had Adam autograph the picture for me. He was a good mate, a loyal friend, and will be deeply missed.
