While it might seem inappropriate, I want to thank the parents and youth who were involved in this terrible tragedy. They presented an excellent example of what our youth can do when well-trained and confronted with a terrible situation. As an assistant Scoutmaster and Eagle Scout, my heart aches for those who are hurt or have died - but at the same time, it is filled with pride that young men were so capable and so prepared.

Softly falls the light of day, While our campfire fades away. Silently each Scout should ask Have I done my daily task? Have I kept my honor bright? Can I guiltless sleep tonight? Have I done and have I dared Everything to be prepared? Listen Lord, oh listen Lord, As I whisper soft and low. Bless my mom and Bless my dad, These are things that they should know. I will keep my honor Bright, The oath and law will be my guide. And mom and dad this you should know, Deep in my heart I love you so. Second version Quietly we join as one, Thanking God for Scouting fun May we now go on our way, Thankful for another day. May we always love and share, Living in peace beyond compare. As Scout may we find, Friendships true with all mankind. Quietly we now will part, Pledging ever in our heart, To strive to do our best each day, As we travel down life's way. Happiness we'll try to give, Trying a better life to live, 'Till all the world be joined in love, Living in peace under skies above.

While heading north from Phoenix to Camp Geronimo near Payson, AZ, I was informed of this terrible tragedy by an associate from work. My thoughts and prayers immediately went out to those affected, their families, their Scouting Districts, Council and our National offices of BSA. Our flags at Camp were flown at half-staff in honor of those who suffered and died at the hand of this tornado that struck our camp. The Brotherhood of Scouting is powerful, and prayers from all of us who can feel the saadness of those impacted are needed. We will never understand why this happened and while weather experts can explain "how" this will not ease our troubled hearts. I encourage all Scouts and Scouters to remain attentive to this situation and stay in prayer for those who are hurting and grieving their loss. We are onje large family. Please know that our prayers are indeed with you all. Nancy Welton Chaplian Troop 222 Scoutmaster Troop 4 Phoenix, Arizona

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your young sons. Nothing can compare to the loss of a dear child. I know that nothing I can say will calm your hurt, but please just know that my family and I are thing about you and praying for your comfort in the months and years to come. We too lost a son at Boy Scout Camp several years ago. Bryan had just turned 10 years old and it was his very first camping trip away from home. He suffered injuries in an accident while watching older scouts during a skill compitition. I live each day with Bryan's memory and think of the smile on his face when we said goodbye as he ran happily off to camp. I know I will see Bryan again one day, and until then I know he is safe in God's care. SD, Wichita KS

I heard of this terrible tragedy as I was on the computer preparing materials for the scout camp session I am getting ready to run in my home town. I can't imagine the pain and sorrow of all of the families, but I also can't fathom the pain of all of the leaders and scouters involved. As scout leaders we all take our responsibility to our scouts to heart. I can only offer prayers for peace and comfort to everyone involved, and the assurance that God is there with you always, even during this terrible time. God bless you all.

I am truely sorry for the loss the parents of the boys have had. This is a terrible tragedy and something totally unexpected when sending a child to camp. I commend those whose quick thought and preparedness helped prevent this from being a larger tragedy than it is. The training in first aid, emergency prepardness, wilderness survival, and all other aspects the Boy Scouts have to offer have been proven highly effective during this event. I will be sending one son to camp as a CIT for the next 5 weeks and my other son will be attending a week long training camp and then attending his week of summer camp over the following 2 weeks. It is hard enough to send them off for that amount of time knowing they will be well taken care of and gain necessary skills to help them in their lives, without thinking about a natural tragedy occurring. For those families who have lost a child, I am very sorry and pray for you. For those who were injured and for those who helped others, I commend your courage and am greatful to know that so many of our boys have the necessary skills to assist in an emergency. God Bless you all. Yours in Scouts. Linda Bittner, ASM Troop 445 Burnsville, MN

I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOST. KNOW ONE CAN SAY THEY KNOW HOW YOU FEEL. IT IS THE WORST FEELING THAT YOU CAN BEAR TO LOOSE YOUR CHILD. EVEN WHEN THEY ARE SO YOUNG. TIME IS THE KEY AND PLEASE CALL ON THE LORD TO HELP YOU THROUGH THIS. I KNOW YOU FEEL AS THE LORD HAS TURN HIS BACK ON YOU, BUT HE'S STILL THERE. THE NIGHTS AND THE DAYS ARE GOING TO BE HARD. KEEP LIVING ON THE MEMORIES THAT YOU ALL SHARED TOGETHER. I AM REALLY FEELING YOUR PAIN. THIS IS THE SAME MONTH THAT I LOST MY SON AT THE AGE OF 13 . HE DROWN .I KNOW IT WILL BE SOMETHING THAT YOU WILL NEVER GET OVER YOU WILL LEARN ONE DAY HOW TO LIVE WITH IT. GOD BLESS YOU. ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT GOD HAS NOT TURN ON YOU HIS ARMS IS STILL WIDE OPEN TO WHOLE YOU. I WISH YOU PEACE IN THE DAY AND YEARS AHEAD.
