Goodbye, old friend...though I never knew you, I knew you too well. My heart broke with every line, was challenged in every poetic verse, was inspired by the breadth and scope of your amazing instrumental abilities. When I eventually have the heart, I may stop crying, but I will never stop listening.Thank you for the gift of your life so well shared. 1980, standing the edge of a wheat field in Oklahoma late November, listening to "Netherlands"...my heart pounding in the anxiety of the moment, I took this music in like water to a parched desert. Then, drunk in the heartspace newly acquired with that music, I spent the rest of my life until now choreographing all my finer times with all of your music.Thank you will never be enough.

I was so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. I have been a fan since 1975. He was a phenomenal singer, song-writer and musician. His death brought a profound sadness to me, as I felt like I had lost an old friend. I found his later year music very insightful. His music told stories and seemed to relate to so many true life situations that affect all of us. I will especially miss seeing him perform in concert. Your light will shine on forever in the hearts of those who admired you, Dan.

When Dan passed away heaven truly captured an angel...His music meant so much to me from Home Free to his last album...and to my 28 year old son who became connected to Dan's music and amazing lyrics even as a toddler. We were both touched and uplifted thru the years by Dan's work...as were countless others....his songs are some of the souvenirs I carry in my heart. Thank you for that, Dan, and my deepest sympathies to Jean.

Dan Fogelberg, simply the most talented singer, song-writer and poet of all times. I was 15 yrs. old when I first heard Dan's "The River" and was so drawn, spiritually and emotionally to his voice, his music, his poetry immediately that I tore San Jose, CA. up and down until I found his album. That was almost 36 yrs. ago! I have all of his albums, tapes and CD's, some of them so worn out that I have several copies. I had the wonderful honor of meeting Dan, twice in Santa Fe, NM and have traveled thousands of miles to hear his beautiful voice ring out in the night. His music, his messages, and his eternal optimism, have seen me through the roughest moments of my life. I PROUDLY named my son Dan, and to my extreme pride, he plays guitar and other instruments beautifully, too. He met Dan with me, and was so honored! We dream of buying him the Dan Fogelberg Martin guitar! I named my dog Stars, my favorite song of Dan's. I cannot listen to any of Dan's music for now, for I begin to cry all over again. Last night, it was cloudy and there was a ring around the moon... remember "There's a ring about the moon tonight?" I cried. At Christmas, I had just been released from the hospital. I had found out Dan had passed on while I was in the hospital, and fell apart. I heard Auld Lang Syne all over the place, and all I could do was cry. Today, and forever, the angels and the Lord will be graced by the beauty of this incredible man's music, his messages, his spirit, and I envy them no end. I keep thinking, " I will never hear him sing live again". Never. Neither will his beloved Jeannie, whom he found finally, and had all too shortly. God bless you, Dan, for you brought me so much more peace of mind, joy and introspection than any other musician ever has, or ever will. For this and so much more, I thank you. And, I promise you, I will do my very best to find that " Magic in Every Moment".

We will all miss this wonderful artist, his lyrics expressed our heart's songs. I just listened to one of his greatest songs, "Leader of the Band" it is heart wrenching for me, as it quietly tells how I feel about my dear Dad who just passed away 2 weeks after Dan Fogelberg. MY life is just a poor attempt to imitate the Leader of the Band. Thank you Dan for this and every one of your songs! You'll be remembered always. My best to all of us, your grateful audience. God Bless your family & loved ones. Debra Zemke, Redding, California

I became aware of Dan Fogelberg in the 1970s, when his song "Longer" was released. I was so taken by his lyrics and beautiful voice that I bought all his previous albums.........I have been hooked ever since. ".....in this planetary circle, we are but a single stone; spinning on our fragile axis, through the endless night alone. Ever on....." True perfection. Karen, an English fan.

"I was introduced to Dans music by my next door neighbor and my brother. The main thing I still remember about Dans music is he had a gift of making his listeners feel exactly the way he felt with his lyrics and that is the best gift you can give to your fans. He will never be truly gone because his spirit lives on in every word and song he wrote. Thanks for the everlasting memories.

I have listened and loved Dan for more than 35 years. My friends and family so identify his music with me that I got many sympathy calls and cards this last month. This has been a very personal loss. After more than 20 concerts a few times meeting and talking to Dan I feel blessed to know his gifts. How lucky we are to have all his music, how blessed. Check out his friend Jim Wilsons page, a very nice tribute. I've got so many wonderful memories to cherish,Thank you Dan.

I've loved your music since I first heard Another Old Lang Syne in the 1980s. I am your loyal and devoted fan all these years, and I miss you terribly! I just learned of your passing, and I am bereft. But I am also so thankful for the songs you gave us all, for the poetry and the spirit in your music. I want to hear everything you ever created!

My friend Gina got married in 1981 to Joe and their song was "Longer", the most romantic song of all time. Dan's music and melodies served as a symphonic backdrop to my coming of age in the city of brotherly love. Later on in my life as I moved to the center of my state, I became widowed, left with a 3 year old boy. My beloved husband was born in the same year as Dan. He also sang with an angelic voice and played various instruments. I bought one of Dan's CD's in 2006 and played it constantly as I drove down the Pennsylvania Turnpike a few times a week to see my sister, Theresa, who was dying of appendix cancer. It just happened to be around Christmastime and she passed away on January 15, 2007. After she died, it was hard to listen to Dan's CD again. I just started listening to it again, enjoying every lyric, but the other day, a painter that was working at my house told me Dan Fogelberg had died. I was shocked. This can't be true. How can someone so young and vibrant die? My heartfelt sympathies to all of his fans, family and his wife Jean.

In 1975 I went to a concert at Roosevelt Stadium in New Jersey. The headliners were the Eagles, Poco and Seals and Crofts. I did not know that Dan would be performing at this show.. I had heard Dan's music on a limited basis and after seeing him perform "live" I was hooked. I was so impressed with the artistry of his lyrics and spent many hours listening to "Home Free" over and over again. My sister Gina, who was about 10 or 11 years old at that time, actually liked the music that her older brother (me) was listening to and she also became a lifelong fan. Gina and I have countless conversations about Dan's music for the last 30 years. He will live on forever through his music and my sister and I will be probably be introducing our grandchildren to Dan Fogelberg without a doubt.

From the very first Dan Fogelberg song that my older brother, Artie, shared with me (maybe 1975 or so) I was hooked. I remember playing Home Free and Netherlands (and many others) until I wore the albums out. I just want to say that I always have and I always will associate so much of Dan's incredibly beautiful music with the best times of my life - from hearing Artie recite some of his lyrics so passionately as to make an indellible mark on my heart to remembering my first date with my husband twenty seven years ago as I recited the words to Netherlands to him and he was totally blown away. I cannot count how many times in my life I have quoted from his lyrics and even how many school projects and things that I used him as an example for -and the most obvious gift of all - just to be able to hear the music over and over again and enjoy it every time like it was the first time hearing it. Many years ago in the early 80's I was fortunate enough to see Dan do a show "unaccompanied" (truly a one-man show) and at that show he told the audience that if he could only have written one song in his lifetime, it would be "Leader of the Band" for his Dad. I will always remember that. Dan Fogelberg was an incredible songwriter and musician and singer, and the world will truly mourn the loss of this beautiful soul.

Dan Fogelberg was a profound part of my life from the age of 16 on. He didn't just sing songs, he sang the stories of our lives. I saw him in concert at Red Rocks in Colorado so many times. Sometimes I saw him with my best friends, once with my parents, and I had planned to take my kids to see him. Sadly we never got that chance. My oldest daughter cried when she heard the news and learned she would never see him in concert. You left us too soon my friend..... Now, I sing to your spirit where all my dreams dwell, the vision of freedom, the life lived so well, And I sing in your canyons, and the echoes ring clear, and I wish somehow you may still hear..... "Bones In The Sky" - D.F. Rest in peace my kindred spirit, I pray we will meet in the sky soon.

My memory of Dan was when I lived in Colorado in Evergreen. We would drive to the mountains and I would listen to Netherlands. A special album to my heart, and I was lucky to see him at Denver Colorado, at the Mile High Stadium. I won those tickets with a bet. Can't remember what the bet was, but I remember the concert. He was with a full orchestra and in a Tuxedo. It was beautiful. I will miss him and know that he will live in many hearts always and forever.

A stalker had lingered at the door after the show. The guards were leary and allowed the fans to draw close, probably to provide a human cover. When you finally came out, and we were so still and quiet in our awe, you looked so scared, just like a deer in the headlights. I felt so sorry that we scared you, and I yelled out "Thanks, Dan." Others joined in and you visibly relaxed. I still miss you every day, and I wish somebody could yell out to me and make me relax. I just didn't think it would end this way. Sing that old song that we used to know, but this time, sing it a little more slowly. This is my Last Nail.

Dan Fogelberg became a part of our college experience then moved with us to adulthood. We had the great fortune to see him in concert in Rockford, Illinois in the 80s. Even now as 50 year olds, his music remains as meaningful as it was many years ago. We are both deeply sad and will miss knowing that he is no longer here. But his music remains in our lives and we are thankful for that. Thank you, Dan.

I took my 'EX' to see Dan at Mobey Gym, at Colorado State University (Ft. Collins) in the early 1980's... I remembering him mentioning that he had just gotten remarried (there is hope)...and that his Dad had just passed away (as he introduced 'Leader of the Band"). Happy\Sad moment...GREAT concert. Hard to say, which song... Run for the Roses, Part of the plan...(and so many others)- I would consider my 'favorite'...But it is easy to say that Dan has long been THE favorite singer-songwriter of mine...and his songs will always be a part of my life... and my music... Rest in Peace Dan...and thanks !!

In 1981 while I was pregnant with our daughter my hubby and I were able to go to the Dan Fogelberg concert in Charlotte, NC right before my due date. I thought I would go in to labor as the music moved me. My husband bought one of the tee shirts with an image of Dan on the front. He wore it until it fell apart. People would ask him if he had his pic put on the shirt. He would blush and say, heck no, that's Dan Fogelberg. Our daughter was almost named Daneille. His music will stay a part of my memories, present and future. He will be forever in the passion of his music.

To this day my first time seeing Dan Fogelberg in concert remains the "best" concert I have ever been to. It was sometimes in the early 80"s and I had been a fan for awhile when I heard he would be at SPAC (Saratoga Performing Arts Center) Saratoga, NY. I encourage a few girlfriends to join me - it was wonderful, the music, the atmosphere, everything. Although I am quite a bit older now I can still recall the absolute thrill I had when the curtains parted and he started to play - WOW. I attended a few more of his concerts over the years and while I enjoyed each one, the first remains the best!

My ex's biggest fear during the early years of our marriage was that Dan Fogelberg would show up in our driveway, and that would be all she wrote, there I'd go off with him in the sunset. That of course wouldn't happen in million years, but I had my imaginery bag packed just in case. The world was just a better place while he was here. If I'm lucky enough to grow old and have to stare at my windows and walls, I have comfort in knowing I'll have Dan nearby keeping me conpany with the songs I've love all these years. Thanks John T. Lee (from LA) for telling me about DF all those years ago.
