I was in Kimmirut with Doug. We got there a week apart. We hung out together a fair bit and I got to see what a fine young man he was. From playing cards to talking about our dogs and running. These are memories I will never forget

As a civilian whose brother, cousin and friends have served in the RCMP, and as a father whose daughter wishes to join the RCMP, I am both angry and deeply saddended by events in our North that led to the loss of two officers in the last month. I do hope the officers' families, relatives, friends and their RCMP family can find comfort in knowing these fine men were carrying out their dream of serving and protecting the public in the finest police force in the world. I have the deepest admiration and respect for all members of the past, present and future and only wish that I could wave a magic wand and prevent an occurence like this from ever happening again. Of course, the nature of society itself dictates that it will. These fine men will always be remembered proudly by those that knew them....and those that did not. The prayers of a nation are extended now and I wish you comfort in that.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Scott Please accept my prayers and thoughts with regard to your son Douglas. I served in the Eastern Arctic, Baffin Island in the 80's. I know very well how Doug felt responding alone. He was a very brave young man, who will always be repected by serving and retired members of the Force. I wished I could have been with him that night. God Bless you and your family. James E.R. Cook, Regimental #34924 Retired

As a private citizen and a parent, I want to express my very deepest sympathy to the family of Constable Doug Scott. He must have been a remarkable young man indeed and the loss of this young man to his family is beyond words and an unbearable loss. On a daily basis, the RCMP are on the front lines, putting their own lives at risk, so that we, the public may reside in safe communities. I think it is time for us to reflect on that and be truly grateful for those like Constable Doug Scott who made the ultimate sacrifice and wanted to make Canada a safer place to live. I wish Doug's parents some kind of peace in the long and very difficult months to come. Your son's life and story has touched many of us in so many different ways and surely that is his legacy. Sincerely Jacquie Howardson

Working and living side by side with you will be forever cherished. I think of you every day, my partner and friend in life and profession. Your Spirit will always linger in the office and the community. May your family and the people that you so served be given peace as you have given us.. Missing you, Doug

It is with great sadness that I write this, my deepest sympathy goes out to his family, friends and colleagues. I also want to give thanks to Doug and all the members of the RCMP, I have nothing but respect for you and for what you do. My mother also had a great respect for members of the RCMP and on one occasion when she was in the hospital I had arranged for a member of the local detachment to visit her, which he so graciously did. The next day when I went to visit her we were talking about the visit she had with the corporal and she looked at me and said, "Yesterday was the best day of my life." Rest in peace Doug, you will be missed by everyone.

I had the pleasure to teach Doug at St Lawrence College in Brockville while he was taking the Police Foundations Program. As a retired OPP Superintendent , I remember he was a student who loved me to talk about some of my experiences. Doug always had a smile on his face, and was a real pleasure to have in the classroom. He was one of those students that you new from the get go had the motiviation, desire and drive and would become an excellent police officer. His passing is a great loss not only to his family but to the police community as well. This is truly a tragic event that will not be forgotten. My heart goes out to his family

It is a shame to hear about violence in such a small close-knit community. I feel so bad for this man's family. Please help me support them.
