Anyone who knows my dad might be familiar with the phrase “put it in the computer”. In other words keep that piece of information in your memory for later. You would think that after 97 years, Grandma’s computer hard drive may have had a few viruses or need a few more gigs of memory. NOT SO. I rang Grandma to thank her for the annual care package delivered Christmas 2010, I told her that we would be sure to use everything that she had given us especially the Weetbix as Cody was eating 7 for breakfast each morning. Recently I complained to Grandma about the trouble I was having providing enough food to keep two teenage boys satisfied. I said to her “guess how many Weetbix Cody eats each day?” she replied “seven”. I was gobsmacked I had forgotten about our previous conversation. Grandma had “put it in the 97 year old computer” which was still working very well. If Grandma thought that she could give you something that you would appreciate she would get not one or two but as many as she could find. I remember when Kristen was born, making the trip to Sydney by plane with Cody (then 18 months) to visit the new arrival. Grandma had some choc wafer biscuits in her cupboard which Cody devoured with gusto for morning tea when we visited. Two years later when we visited again for Kristen’s second birthday, Grandma remembered how much Cody loved the biscuits and had a packet of Choc wafer’s for Cody, a packet for Brock and one to take home. Six months ago Grandma sent a box with about 47 packets of choc wafers and home brand ginger nut cookies, all Cody’s favourites when he was two. Luckily, I never had the heart to tell her that Cody’s favourite biscuits are now Arnotts Caramel Royals otherwise our family would have been the next contestants on Biggest Losers families. I love you Grandma, God bless you and may your caring, considerate and giving heart rest in peace. Lou
