George was my boss at the PMG workshops back in 1966 until I went off to Vietnam. I also assisted at a club meeting in the old timing bus at Oran Park where he taught me to work 4 stopwatches at once. He was a good boss and firm but fair with a ready story about his cycling days with his brother riding tandem on the Wiley Park Velodrome. Its probably all gone now except the memories. It was a beautiful service, brought back many memories from years back, I can remember going out with my mother & father to see the new house, flannel flowers growing out the back, the stories that were told when they came up to the farm at Tamworth, and always with that twinkle in his eye, One I remember well was Barry telling us how a morris minor had stopped or got in the way, Barry swerved and missed it, but guess who was in the side car and went up over the boot of the morris, of course this was followed by that renown chuckle, Another time I was probably about 16, Barry was silly enough to go pillion behind me on a 1939 AJS 350 Silver Streak, it had been given to us by Freddie Sykes who had used it as a beach fishing bike, and so was fitted with a bald 15 inch VW car tyre, might have been alright on the sand but definitely no good on wet slippery Tamworth clay. Needless to say we both ended up on our backsides in the mud, and of course Barry had the relevant comment. I was in Sydney when Barry had the altercation with the car so Carmen and I visited him in hospital. When asked if he would be riding the Vello again, he didn't have time to say yes. There was a definite No that came from the other side of the hospital bed. We are on this earth for such a short time, Barry was one person who made the most of that time. Fred Haskins ( Hass)

As a young boy sailing with Barry will be in my memory forever He taught me team work ,Gave me confidence in myself and taught me a skill that i now pass on to my boys. Mind you there was a lot of swearing on that little skiff that none on land would ever hear what a great man and mentor my sincere condolences to the Fry family Murray Jefferys
