As a young girl growing up in a fairly typical, run of the mill suburb of Sydney, Horst brought an unusual, mysterious flavour to our street. His accent and intelligence inspired hours of day dreaming, and his beautifully savage backyard provided some incredible, never-to-be-discovered hiding spots.
Whilst in retrospect, it was clear that the intrusions were unsolicited, at the time, I frequently entertained the idea that Horst was in fact trying to create the greatest hiding spot in the entire suburb. I was exceedingly pleased that we lived across the road from such a secret garden.
Horst was a very kind hearted man and Willington Street will surely miss him.

The best memories are the kindness of the inner spirit, the gleam in the eye, the warmth in a wry smile - the little things that are really big things, that bring us together as humans. And you didn't hide that from us, and we shared that with you.
