ISOC-NY1739 Four NYU students report to the Internet Society's New York Chapter on their efforts to meet Eben Moglen's challenge to create a facebook killer, or in their words a "privacy aware, personally controlled, do-it-all distributed open source social network." I will always remember the day you sent me a message on Diaspora, saying something among the lines of: "If you ever come to the States, let me know. You can stay at my place and I can show you some of the good places in town." I've always believed we were going to meet some day. The sad truth is now we never will. Ilya, you are one of the most awesome people I have ever met online and you've done a lot of meaningful things, not just to me but to every single person who has signed up to Diaspora. No matter what happens, to me you will always be one of the four people that made it all happen and you will always be missed. Not only as a hacker but even more so as a person. Much love!
We will make D* succeed
Thx Ilya for what you have done for diaspora and for what you've done for us: creating a free net world where sharing and find new friends like you were to me... We'll miss you, Ilya.
Although I didn't know him, the loss of someone at such a young age is astounding. My heart goes out to his family and friends.
On behalf of the students at the University of Central Missouri I would like to offer condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Zhitomirskiy. May you find peace and comfort in each other at this time. Keep smiling, shine on your brothers and sisters, never give up hope for a better world. Love one another- and know, this is merely the beginning. Live, dance, laugh, love and believe. Keep faith in yourselves, God and each other. Love, peace, grace. K.E. French
As one of the backers of Diaspora in Kickstarter, I had and have high hope for you and the team. Obviously I still do. I hope your sudden demise will work as an inspiration for the team, moreover for all of us. Where ever you are Ilya, thanks for all mate.
Too young to die, so much still to do. RIP Ilya.
