In July of 1983 at Ft Bragg,NC Lou performed and spent a few days with his old unit , the 2/505th Airbone Infantry; Lou sat down and ate lunch in the Mess hall at lunch one day and I was tempted to shake his hand and talk but I did not want to bother him. The show on Ft Bragg Fairgrounds was awesome; the Commanding General of the 82d Abn Division, MG Edward L Trobaugh presented Lou with a Maroon beret and thanked Sergeant Lou Rawls for his service to our Nation; Years later in Pembroke,NC on Dec 4, 2004 Lou acknowledged his 82d Abn Buddies at Givens Performing Arts Center by looking in the crowd and saying " I was just down the road a few years ago and I now the 82d Airborne is in the House tonight".
