I met Merle Harris in 1938 when we moved from Brisbane to live in Five Dock, we met at Primary School and she befriended me straight away. We lived around the corner from each other, and we went to the same business College after High School and even worked near one another off Hunter Street, Sydney. We went to Scottish dances for years, and made our debut together at the RSL Ball and had wonderful outings and took holidays together. Merle was my bridesmaid when I married in 1950 and I sang at her wedding standing behind a flower arrangement as I was heavily pregnant at the time. When we had our familys we had lots of visits, and we kept in touch when she moved to Melbourne on the phone every couple of weeks. I loved Merle and she was like the sister I never had.
