I WANT TO COMMEND MSNBC FOR TELEVISING THE CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF TIMOTHY RUSSERT. ALTHOUGH I AM IRISH, I HAVE NEVER WITNESSED AN IRISH WAKE UNTIL NOW. I AM AT A TOTAL LOSS TO EXPLAIN MY SADNESS AT THE LOSS OF TIM, EXCEPT TO SAY I FEEL LIKE I LOST A CLOSE FRIEND. BUT THE MEMORIAL AT KENNEDY CENTER WAS EXCEPTIONAL. MSNBC CAN BE EXTREMELY PROUD, THE EULOGIES GIVEN BY EVERYONE ON STAGE WERE EXCEPTIONAL. PROBABLY THE MOST HILARIOUS, ALTHOUGH TRUE, MOMENT OCCURRED WHEN AL HUNT EXPRESSED THE SENTIMENT THAT THE BABY BORN TO TIM AND MAUREEN WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT BIRTH IN 2,000 YEARS. ALL OF THE SPEAKERS, AS I SAID BEFORE, WERE SUPERB. IT WAS SO TOUCHING TO HEAR “THUNDER ROAD” (MY FAVORITE SONG) BY TIM’S GUITAR PLAYING BROTHER-IN-LAW AND IT WAS ABSOLUTELY AND UNBELIEVABLY COOL TO HEAR SPRINGSTEEN SING. IT WAS A SIMPLE AND MAJESTIC CEREMONY. I AM AWARE THAT IS A CONTRADICTION BUT SOMEHOW I BELIEVE THAT SUMS UP TIM. WHAT A VOID THERE IS GOING TO BE IN THE POLITICAL WORLD AS WELL AS THE WORLD ITSELF. BY THE WAY, WHEN IS MSNBC GOING TO HIRE TIM’S SON? I DON’T CARE IN WHAT CAPACITY IT IS IN BUT THAT IS ONE MAGNIFICENT 22 YEAR-OLD. THAT YOUNG MAN SHOWED A POISE THAT IS TRULY UNREAL. ALL I KNOW IS THAT I WANT TO SEE MORE OF HIM. I AM 60 AND I HOPE I SEE HIM BEFORE I DIE. MARY ELLEN MICHIGAN I WANT TO COMMEND MSNBC FOR TELEVISING THE CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE OF TIMOTHY RUSSERT. I chose this title so as to always remind me of him saying these words which I could identify with since I am born of immigrant parents who toiled like Tim's dad with no complaints and regrets. My most vivid memory of Mr. Russert was during the 2004 elections when all his contemporaries on TV were showing glowing statistics about the election results; he had this wash board to write very simple yet logical explanation of his opinion like Florida, Florida,Florida ! and sure enough he was right. He left a huge void in his chosen field. He was a devout catholic who practiced what his church believed and preached. A decent man whose family came first a rarity in these modern high pressured demanding times. He never trapped whom he interviewed especially politicians but relentless and fearless in his questioning; questions that the American People want answered without the spin. You are loved and be missed Mr. Russert. God Bless you in Heaven!

I have to say I did not grow up in a very political family. I started watching Meet the Press many years ago because of Tim. I found him enlightened, light-hearted and very dilligent about the job he had. I watched the show today, the first real show without him and it wasn't close to being the same. It couldn't be.. Tim is gone. The political powers that be seemed to talk all over each other...something Tim would never let happen.. He never made it obvious that he was running the show; but they knew it. Today, Brian did his best but it wasn't enough. It couldn't be..Tim is gone. I don't know if I will be watching Face The Nation anymore..not that it isn't good....its just...Tim is gone. I will be making sure I wrap up any broken jars in newspaper before I put it in the trash,....something I learned from Tim. Tim will remain in my heart...he's there now.

In these uncertain times of unrest and change, with all the tragedies happening here and abroad it was refreshing to have someone asking those questions which we all wanted answers to from our leaders. In today's news reporting so much is sensationalism and fluff but not with Tim and a few others who are brave enough to ask the hard questions of our elected leaders who allegedly have our best interests at stake. As I watched the memorials and clips of Tim interviewing national leaders and those whose aspirations would lead to the highest office I was struck by how naturally he would ask the questions and how quickly he would zone in to the important issues to be asked. He was not afraid to question and to seek clarification of all the spin that we have been accustomed to hearing from those seeking to gain the public trust. I was just as impressed by his son whose eloquent and moving tribute to his father would conjure up that old expression, "he's a chip off the old block." I rarely like to watch the news as most of the stories are about tragedy and more tragedy and dark events which have happened to regular people in their daily lives. But when you turned on Tim Russert on Sunday or a Chris Matthews on CNBC nightly or a lively debate with Tim as the moderator between the candidates, you knew you were in for some fireworks and truth, which is rarely told by our elected officials. Thankfully we have jounalists of the highest caliber of a Tim Russert or a Chris Matthews. for thats the only way our democracy will survive and grow. Unfortunately it cannot solely be left to our elected officials to honestly act in our best interests without supervision. The individual citizen can no longer challenge the big power brokers and lobbyists. But with the superb and brilliant constant supervision a Tim Russert we could sleep a little better at night. A final thought about Tim Russert. He did what he did which such skill and ease and made it look so natural, that now that he is gone and we reflect on what he has done for journalism and for us more importantly, the individual citizen without a real voice in the process, he will be truly missed. I hope the journalists and politicans who now go on representing us and standing up for us will have the same integrity and dignity that Tim had in his chosen profession. That will make the United States even better than it is now as we can certainly do better for all our citizens and those who come under our protection. To his family in closing thanks for letting us borrow Tim for all those years, to stand up for us and to ask the hard questions of those who represent us. He is a national treasure.and a true Patriot. Sincerely Lyle Milstein

Dear Russert Family. My heartfelt condolences to you. What a loss to all of us. I did not know Tim personally, but he seemed like family when I watched him on the Today Show and Meet The Press. He seemed like part of our family and such a unique person. He was so wholesome and not a fake bone in his body. He had such a sparkle in his eyes and he always thought about the other person. As I sat in Mass this morning and read the article about him in the Catholic Weekly, I again had tears running down my face, as I thought about the great loss we have all suffered. He is in Heaven with his sparkle in his eyes and looking down at us, and we down here still feel the void in our hearts for him. I want to thank you both for sharing your husband/father with us. You are in my prayers.

I am writing from Northern Ireland. I watched "Meet the Press" regularly on the Internet. I am Northern Irish born and bred, but love the U.S.A. I am due to travel to Chattanooga in three weeks. I hadn't logged on to watch "Meet the Press" for two weeks, and was planning to watch the show tonight before going to bed. I was shocked to learn that Tim had passed away. I never met him, but I thought that I had. I am a lawyer too by profession. He will be so sadly missed. God bless his family. George

I never met Tim Russert, but watched him on Meet the Press Sunday mornings after coming home from Church. He was a man that you just believed and knew that he was giving you both sides of the story and the truth! Having been born in Buffalo and raised in Tn of Tonawanda, I, too, root for the BIlls and Sabres! He truly was a man who just made you feel good and brought a smile! He will be sorely missed by all of us! My condolences to the family. He would have been so proud of his son, Luke. Speaking at the memorial, I do not think that I could have done that!

Not a memory but a thought. Could his heart attack have been caused by a blood clot that he developed from sitting on an airplane for an extended period of time. He did just return from his trip to Europe. It is common for blood clots to form in the legs when you remain seated for an extended period of time. Doctors advise you to move frequently when on an airplane, riding in a car, or any time that you are seated for an extended period of time. The public should be made aware of this if this indeed was what cased the blood clot that took his life. Accurate knowledge could save the lives of others. To many people are on cholesterol lowering medications which they in and of themselves pose serious health risks. We do not need a panic and an increase in statin drug perscriptions.

There is no doubt Tim Russert was one of the great investigative journalists in our time. His MEET THE PRESS segments were meticulously researched as he dedicated himself to find the truth by delving deeper into the minds of his guests, especially the politicians. There will never be one like him. We miss him dearly! Jerry Jaleel

I FEEL SUCH A DEEP LOSS OF TIM RUSSERT. I KNEW I LIKED HIM A LOT AND APPRECIATED WHO AND WHAT HE STOOD FOR, BUT I NEVER GUESSED THE HURT IN MY HEART AT HIS PASSING SO SUDDENLY. I HAD SUCH A RESPECT FOR HIM AND HIS WORK AND TRUSTED HIM TO BE REAL AND HONEST. MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE THOUGH WAS HIS"ENTHUSIASM". HE WENT AT IT ALL AS A KID ON HIS FIRST TRIP TO DISNEYLAND. ALL THE EXCITEMENT AND ANTICIPATION OF A NEW EXPERIENCE WITH EACH AND EVERY INTERVIEW. RARELY DO WE SEE THAT IN ANYONE TODAY. I WILL MISS HIM TERRIBLY AND NO ONE CAN REPLACE HIM IN MY EYES. MY HEARTFELT SYMPATHIES TO HIS SON AND WIFE. MAY GOD BLESS YOU BOTH.

I grew up in the Buffalo area and to see someone from your hometown area move up to where Tim did and still have the same hometown spirit as he did just amazes me. In an industry where looks are important and values are not he showed both to be wrong. For those of us who do not look like we walked out of a magazine but have strong values and work hard Tim showed us that we can make it. His son is a perfect example of the way Tim lived his life. I am so saddened by his unexpected death. Sincerely with love to his entire family....Ceil and Jim Berntsen/Palm Desert, California

I once read a quote that describes Tim Russett to a "T"! "Live your life in such a way that if someone said something bad about you, no one would believe them". He accomplished this in every area of his life. He was my favorite and I will miss him. May God's peace, that passes all understanding, surround the entire family as you grieve for this wonderful man.

We have all been touched my Tim's death. It seems the country is at a crossroads. If any good can come of this tragedy, it is that Tim succeeded by living by his values. He was ambitious but brought people up with him, challenged and motivated him. He made no effort to hide his faith but openly lived it. He didn't have to be perfect. He knew who he was, stayed true to his roots, was an "old shoe" kind of guy. He loved people but never forgot who crossed him, tough but not rough, a lover of life and people. This is our heritage as Americans. Tim's death makes us realize that are still heroes out there, maybe not as visible as Tim, and that his life can be an example for all of us.

Before seeing Mr. Russert as moderator on MEET THE PRESS, I remember being saddened by the departure of Laurence E. Spivak from that position. When one is a child, one does not like things to change -- at all -- or at least I didn't. I guess I'm too young to remember much of what Mr. Spivak did -- but from the best of my recollection, he was dignifed and did not ask too many embarrassing questions of his guests. Mr. Russert, however, impressed me as a "tiger" of a journalist....always going for the truth, to give his audience the REAL story behind the news. Yet his compassion also showed, for guests that needed and merited it. I wish I had watched "Meet The Press" more often, so I could remember more of what Mr. Russert did. (I'll try to catch some of this on YouTube.com, if it is there.) When my cousin died, at 51 -- from being given the wrong medication when she went in for a mammogram at the hospital -- I tried to comfort her parents by telling them that at least, she had never suffered the pain of losing a parent. It is a very, very, small consolation, I know -- but I offer it to Mr. Russert's parents, (and family, and friends), as well....... Mr. Russert's memory will live on, in the hearts of his family and his friends, in the huge audience that saw him on TV, in the hearts of those who read, have read, or will read, his books, and in the hearts of those who see him on video-tape. They say that there are not many great men today -- that all we have are rock stars who over-dose on drugs, as examples of fame and fortune to our children. No. We DO have great men, (and women), around today -- and Mr. Tim Russert was a prime example of this. Perhaps his greatest legacy will be, that one can be kind, tough, and serious, that one can care about others, and about others knowing the real truth of what goes on in the world, that one need NOT be a mindless pop-star, a drug addict, or estranged from one's parents, that one can be optimistic, yet realistic, about the world''s future.....and still attain the fame and fortune that so many young, (and older people) want. Tim Russert was "the all-American boy", grown up! He was "The All-American Man"! May his memory live, and continue to be the finest of examples for others, both men and women, world-wide! Esther

My mother died suddenly of a heart attack at age 56 back in 1988. It is such a shock to recover from when someone so young and vibrant passes away in this manner. The most difficult times are when we think of what she missed out on with our children growing up. She was a wonderful grandmother but only saw our children up to ages 1 and 6. Tim was a wonderful man and we enjoyed seeing him on Meet the Press for years. We had the opportunity to live in Buffalo for two years and became Bill's fans and Sabres fans also. We live in VIrginia but are still Buffalo fans. You have been blessed with a wonderful role model of a husband and father. keep the memories alive. Debbie F.

Nearly two weeks ago I was on DIGG.COM when a headline said that Tim Russert had died. I clicked on the link, and was shocked. Over the years I have seen bits of ",Meet The Press" I'm not an overtly political person, but I always found Mr. Russert a very good man.from what little I saw. I've watched all the press coverage that I can.I wish now that I'd watch more "Meet The Press" for now my respect, admiration has grown for him and I''ve learnt what a truly good man can be and can do. I live in Trinidad, but from this far I feel sadness for people that knew Mr. Russert, his family, friends, and every that knew him and those who only now wished they had, like myself. watched "Meet The Press", for I think my introduction to Tim Russert was too late to learn what I know of him, now.At least we now know what we've missed, and that seems to be a lot. God bless you and yours, Mr. Russert. Andrew Fitt

Honest, ioyal, caring, loving, always smiling, down to earth, and the list goes on. To his beautiful wife, his wonderful son, his great dad, to all the "big shots" that had the pleasure to work with and know Tim Russert, I send my condolences. I am originally from upstate NY (Albany), I now live in a very small town in central Florida since 1995, and I would not miss a Sunday a.m. Meet the Press. My sundays consisted of going to St. Elizabeth's Church and watching Meet The Press. I felt so good each Sunday after I achieved those two important goals. When my husband of almost 30 years died four years ago, the pain was (and still is) unbearable. I now feel that pain for Mr. Russert. When I had been diagnosed and almost died last year from cancer, I awoke after 31 days in the hospital and said to myself, "who would I want to walk into my room with a smile" to cheer me up. It was Tim Russert. His smile spoke a million words. And what a lucky man he was, how proud he must be today of his wife and his son. When JFK died, I was only 6 years old and I remember my mom crying for ever (and many others) and I couldn't truly understand it. When 9/11 took place (I lost my aunt) we all remember where we were and we will never forget that day. Well, I add today, the day the world lost such an important, caring, loving man, to that list. And on top of the list he will always remain. I will light a candle every evening for him as I do my husband. I am so sorry for your tremendous loss, to all our tremendous loss. Thank you God for taking care of him.

With the untimely passing of Tim Russert braodcast journalism has lost another member of a unique fraternity. By his professionalism and integrity Tim was in a class of broadcasters who never forgot the job they were to do: Report the facts without opinion, tell the truth and inform and educate the public. Years from now his name will be part of the roll call of the greats: Murrow, Brinkley, Cronkite et al. My sincerest condolences go out to the entire Russert family. I am sure you know by now the esteem in which Tim was held. As I was writing this note I was istening to music from another American icon who also passed recently, Eddy Arnold. He was singing a song entitled "The Richest Man in the World". I think the opeing lyrics describe how Tim often described his feelings about his good fortune. Let me share them.... Thank you thank you Lord above for smiling down on me. I'm richer now than any man has any right to be. Health and love and happiness have been my cup of tea. The richest man in all creation surely must be me.

My memory of Tim Russet is getting up every Sunday morning with my husband and watching Meet the Press. Just watching him go head to head with politicians and political pundits every week made my Sunday a little more tolerable. To Maueen, Luke, Big Russ and the rest of the Russet family our deepest sympathies and may God make this time a little more bearable. There is a Jewish prayer we say at the time of the death of someone's loved one. It is: May God console you among the other mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. I know you are not of the Jewish faith, but I feel this prayer will help you during this difficult time.

Watching the memorial service brings into focus the proud journalists of our country who are leaving us one by one slowly, but surely. Its with proud thanks and compassion at this time for his family that I am grateful that he was able to be with us as long as he was. He was a good person, a great journalist, and someone to be very proud of in his own write. Perhaps some day we will see his son follow in his great fathers foot steps :)

For years we have felt the disingenuineness of of our polititions. Tim could cut through all of it, look the guest in the eye and ask the tough question. Through Tim, we as a country, could see for ourselves if his guest was telling the truth or simply sidestepping the issues. I often smiled when Tim would respectifully lead his guest back to the original question that needed to be answered. I loved him for that. He was gracious yet tough, respected but truly loved by us. He was a treasured gift.

By Bette I have just watched this wonderful Memorial Service for a great man and person, Tim Russert. I felt as if I was a member of this wonderful family and oh, how it hurt. I have shed many tears since Friday afternoon when first hearing about Tim's passing.I have watched, and when I couldn't watch Meet the Press I would tape it for later, and have always marveled at what a wonderful way he had about him. He was always gracious to the people he was interviewing. So many journalists don't allow a person to answer the question asked but Tim always did. What a man. It would be wonderful if other journalists would take a lesson from him. If so, wouldn't this world would be a much better place. And what a great son you are Luke. And oh how proud your father would have been to see how you have handled yourself through all of this. Yes, you are definitely your father's son and I know how proud your family must be. At the age of 22 you are more of a man than many men who are much older. Tim has generated more excited during this election period than anyone and in a great way. I know he caused me to be glued to the TV. We will all miss him terribly now and there is just no one who can take his place, no one. The white board was one of the things that always made me realize what was really happening. Every time I turn on TV now during the rest of this election period I will always wonder what would Tim say about this or that. What a treasure this country had for a brief 58 years. May God be with all of you. And God bless Tim.

of what we should all strive to be. A force of nature has been called home to God. May God Bless and Keep Maureen, Luke, Big Russ and his family and friends in this painful time. There is no replacing such a great person, but hopefully all the memories he left you all with will help a little bit. Be there for each other. Tim definitely made politics and news interesting. I've learned a lot watching and listening to him. Thanks Tim.

I was truly amazed at the Manners, Politness and Courtesy of Luke Russert on the Today show, boy, you can tell he is his Father' son. What an inspiration he was to me, to see how this man grew right in the steps of his Dad, I now know why Tim was so very proud of him, his Mom and Dad did and taught him well. He will probably go on and be just like his Dad if he so chooses to, has the personality, the looks of his Dad and that big Irish smile, just like Tim also. His talk at the Memorial Service was so touching, had to be so hard for you, but you can see the true faith that was bestilled in you. Go Luke, WHAT A COUNTRY!!! God Bless....

My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Russert's family and friends, and to all who seek healing in this moment. The "timing" of Mr. Russert's passing was certainly not lost on me as my heart broke for his family. Hearing of his sudden death certainly fueled my passion to continue encouraging people to have the "death bed" conversation with their loved ones now... before it's too late. We tend to take the easy road through life. So I know it's uncomfortable for some to think about saying goodbye to a loved one. I can only speak of my own experience of having had the 'death bed' conversation with my Dad months before his sudden death. But from my experience, I can assure you of two things: 1) wounds of the past can be healed; and 2) having your say (before it's too late) will help tremendously through your grieving process. The peace you will receive for having said all "those things" is beyond words. Personally, I like to think it also helps their passing as well. If there is any "lesson" that can be learned from such a tragic event, maybe it's to ask yourself: Why not have "the talk" with my loved ones now? Why be left behind living with regrets? www.noexpertsneeded.com
